Daily Prompt: Blogger With a Cause

If your day to day responsibilities were taken care of and you could throw yourself completely behind a cause, what would it be?

Photographers, artists, poets: show us HELP.

There are so many worthwhile endeavors a person could take up, they couldn’t do all of them. From the ecological aspects as touched upon in by Completely Disappear , to someone who looks back at the challenges they have seen develop as Chronicles of an Angloswiss details. An Atheist Blog looks at empowering girls and women, and all the other great posts found at The Daily Post.

As many of you know I grew up with a mixture of Christianity and Buddhism with a couple of other influences. So my answer would be to help bring social activism and community service into the mainstream of Buddhist practices. As Buddhist we are taught to respect the land and other beings around us, so anything that help the environment, or other people to suffer less is something that can be looked at. From helping the poor, to protecting the environment so all beings can enjoy a healthier life.

If you can work at what you love, then work becomes a joy, not something to be endured.

I would like to introduce you to:

I would like to introduce you to The Corporate Body of the Buddha Educational Foundation.

They are a Buddhist foundation based in Taipei, Taiwan. Their goal is to promote the Buddha Dharma and to make the teachings freely available to the general public. They don’t favour any one school or sect over another, and all are afforded equal respect. They offer both printed books and e-books, in the following languages: Bengali, Burmese, Cambodian, Chinese, English, French, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Korean, Mongolian, Nepali, Sinhalese. Spanish, Thai, Tibetan, and Vietnamese.

Daily Prompt: All About Me

Explain why you chose your blog’s title and what it means to you.

My blog’s title has changed since I started writing here, over two years ago. It started out as Keith the Green’s Blog, and I found while I incorporate my green streak, in my posts, I wrote more from the perspective of applying the teachings of The Buddha to everyday life. So I changed it to A Western Buddhist‘s Travels. Life is a journey we travel, and the path I choose to follow to the best of my ability, has sign posts and directions that he Buddha and other wise teachers have left for us. My tagline of “Sightseeing & detours on the path of enlightenment” I chose because I write mainly about life, and use the daily prompts. So if you are the type who wants to get to the destination, with a route straighter than a crow flies, you’ll pass me at some point along the way. It’s fine, I may have stopped o have coffee or tea and tiramisu with a friend. Perhaps, I’ll have decided to stop and take some pictures, or look a some of the great photo’s you have posted. We all have our own path in life, and when they converge for a while, lets share some knowledge, and have a cup of coffee, or check out some of the great recipes or restaurants listed here. As a Buddhist, life is about living in the moment, not worrying about tomorrow. Thanks for joining me for the journey, may we all learn from each other, and everyday leave our world in the same or better shape than we found it when we woke up this morning.
