Daily Prompt: Seconds!
Describe the most satisfying meal you’ve ever eaten, in glorious detail.
Hmm, so many meals, so few words if only one. I would have to choose one that although the food wasn’t perfect, it was the total experience. Growing up, I ate many meals with my parents on a Saturday at a small restaurant called the Lychee Gardens.
My father had two sons from his first marriage, and that meant I had two brothers who were older than me. Yes they could be called half brothers, but we don’t see it that way, to us family is family. Well in 1969, on August 14th, I finally got to meet them in person for the first time. It was my birthday, and we went to the Lychee Gardens for dinner. Birthdays were always a day to eat well in my family, and most of my cousins had the same experience. So there were over 30 of us sitting around 4 large round tables. The menu included Wor Won Ton soup which was my favorite. Also beef and broccoli in oyster sauce, bo zai fan or clay pot rice with Cantonese sausage, among several dishes.
The Lychee Gardens had great Chinese food, but it was meeting my brothers for the first time, that made the meal special. Although we aren’t close in visiting every week, due to the distance, they have a special place in my heart. Family was important growing up, and the tradition of celebrating get a get together with large meals was common on both the Chinese and the Ukrainian side, so some days I wonder, how I didn’t end up being heavier than I was.
What a nice story, so glad you have a loving family, it’s more important than anything! Oh and the meal sounds delicious, it’s making me hungry!
I recommend going for dim sum 🙂
What a good idea!
Yep. Like Lois, I’m hungry now, and wanting to see family.
I recommend Dim Sum 😛
