Daily Prompt: Quote Me
Do you have a favorite quote that you return to again and again? What is it, and why does it move you?
“We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves.” H.H. the 14th Dalai Lama
If you follow my blog, you will notice I tend to climb the soapbox on occasion about changing the world, so we leave it in better shape for our children than we received it from our parents. I view this goal in a comprehensive way, environmentally, ethically, socially, economically, and spiritually. For peace to exist beings can not be reduced to fighting for the necessities of life, such as clean water, fresh air, and a healthy diet. Equality must be the basis of all our interactions with others, not just the passing of resolutions. Socially, we need to see that all have the opportunity to advance their education, to build self esteem, and have a value system that recognizes our differences without imposing our views on others. Poverty is one of the strongest weapons in oppressing people, and one of the most devastating. spiritually, it doesn’t matter what path you follow, and in most cases the one you grew up with will probably be the most comfortable, however the freedom to change paths needs to also be respected. It is for these reasons, that I have always kept this quote in the forefront of my guiding principles. It is a lot shorter to repeat than the lyrics to the song Man in the Mirror, from Micheal Jackson.

I like that quote too.
“It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye” – Antoine de St. Exupery. But that’s just for starters – I return to certain quotes regularly..
Inner peace first…
