Daily Prompt: Study Abroad

If you were asked to spend a year living in a different location, where would you choose and why?

I would choose South East Asia. For it would allow me to explore part of the world that is my heritage. Also it would allow me to spend some time in countries that take different paths in following the Buddha‘s teachings. From India through Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Honk Kong, Taiwan, China, Japan and Korea, I would choose Thailand. Being fairly centrally located in the region, and it would allow me to indulge in dishes such as, Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, the three types of curries, Tom Kha Kai soup, fresh Durian, and many others. If possible I would take the temporary ordination at a Wat, for the spring rainy season. This is for three months, and would allow me to experience life, as a monk.

  1. Sounds fun, I want to go too.

  2. my bf loves durian.. but i swear i find the smell repulsive! lol

  3. That sounds wonderful! I could carry your suitcases for you 😉
Seriously, have you considered becoming a monk, or spending an extended time as one? We had a house mate at one time who became ordained while he was living with us. It was very interesting to watch him go through the process. It has crossed my mind but I’m way too attached to my married, secular life.
