A Western Buddhist's Travels

Sightseeing & detours on the path of enlightenment

End of the World 21 December 2012 as seen from the path.

Many people are predicting that the World  will end this coming Friday. This belief is based on the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar. After some studying, reading various books, and meditating on the calendar have a different view.

People haven’t changed much since the times before writing. We tend to do just enough to get by. So I think the Mayans who were assigned to work on the calendar decided to take some quality personal time. Afterall they had a few centuries on the books so to speak. So I think they decided to sneak off to have a bbq, or check out the sights at the beach, maybe play with their children, or help with the housework. Before they got back to work, the Mayan empire collapsed, and no one has updated it since. I know ladies, most of you are laughing at the housework part, but I did say maybe. 🙂

I don’t expect you to adopt this idea right away. Think about it, then say on 22 December 2012, if we are still around, at least consider I might just be right. I will be looking forward to something like the sunrise pictured above on the 22nd.
