A Western Buddhist's Travels

Sightseeing & detours on the path of enlightenment

Buddhism, Bikes and Love. Fighting Deadly Cholera.

Sulak Sivaraksa, author of The Wisdom of Sustainability: Buddhist Economics for the 21st Centry, tells Robert Miller why Buddhism will help to conserve dwindling commodity reserves

From the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation:

Take some time to day to meditate, pray, or think about the challenges we face. Then do something today, even if it is as simple as giving a meal to a homeless person, donating some new socks or underwear to a shelter, clean up the litter on the public areas of the street you live on. It doesn’t have to be a big thing, but make an improvement to the world today, no matter how big or how small, they all add up. You might even find yourself smiling a little more.

  1. a few moments can have such a positive effect. Today, I rescued a caterpillar from my work hallway and brought it outside to a tree. It would be so easy to have ignored it, but a few moments of my time changed the Universe of that little creature. Maybe a butterfly will be born and flutter by a child and bring them great joy. Maybe the butterfly will met another butterfly and start life anew with another caterpillar or two or a hundred!
