Teachers who inspired me: Aung San Suu Kyi
Aung San Suu Kyi: The leader of Burma‘s official opposition party. She has lived under house arrest for 15 years. She has been detained under what the Myanmar government has called protective custody, but the United Nations has deemed as imprisonment. She was educated abroad, married an Englishman, and could have walked away from the struggles in her country many times. Instead she has stayed, lost her husband to cancer, and continues to peacefully promote democracy and human rights for her countrymen. She exemplifies a leader who is more concerned about doing the right thing, than the prestige of the office. She was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1991, and has been recognized by many other organizations for her tireless efforts.
