Money and Happiness
“The purpose of making money should be the happiness of people, and not the other way round.” The 14th Dalai Lama
The Buddha did not tell us to live the life of an ascetic, nor did he tell us to make as much as we can and hoard it away. Rather work diligently at a profession that does not harm other beings. Then we should see to the needs of our family, and provide a measure of luxury beyond the basics needed for life. After taking care of our family, and I use this in the extended family sense as is common in Asia, not the smaller nuclear family of the west. Then we are to help others if we have some resources left, and also to give something to the Sangha in support.
