A Western Buddhist's Travels

Sightseeing & detours on the path of enlightenment

Has it really been a year of writing here?

This being the one year anniversary of starting my blog, I was thinking of how to commemorate the event. A look back at how my views evolved, I’m not quite that ambitious and also it’s a subjective view. To summarize the year, would leave out too much background information. So I decided on writing the next 5 days as if I were just starting my blog. Hope you enjoy this perspective, and hope that my blogging had evolved to a higher level than one year ago.

This blog is about my decision to follow the path shown by Buddha. This blog is not meant to convert anyone, change anyone’s beliefs, or say any belief system is the only one. Rather it is a record of my journey on this path we call life, as I follow the teachings of the historical Buddha, to become a better individual. I will try to acknowledge others as I write these entries. However if I miss anyone please forgive me. Any wisdom contained here, I thank those that have been my teachers along the way. As to any errors, the responsibility is mine alone and humbly ask that you understand I am still walking towards enlightenment, and in no way do I profess to know all that is required to achieve that state. Buddha said that there are 84,000 schools or paths to enlightenment. Each of us may share our journey with others, but each of us walks our own path. I have chosen the title for my blog “A laymen’s walk in the forest” to reflect and pay respect to the Theravada tradition of each man spending time as a monk during at least one rainy season.
