A Western Buddhist's Travels

Sightseeing & detours on the path of enlightenment

Boxing Day

Here in Canada the 26Th of December has become know as Boxing Day. It comes from the British tradition of boxing up presents from Christmas to return or regift. The retail industry started to hold post Christmas sales that began on December 26, now by the middle of November you already see what they call Boxing day pricing. As a Buddhist I can enjoy today, as I don’t need all these material possesions to make myself happy. I definitely will enjoy not being stuck in traffic getting to the shopping mall, circling the parking lot like a predatory animal, just waiting to pounce on that empty parking stall. Then there are the human conga lines of people returning gifts, in fact some stores have now banned returns till as late as January 2nd, during the holiday season, all in the name of more sales. Overcrowded aisles, people who have lost all patience. I am enjoying today from the peace and tranquillity of home, Thank Buddha. to those out in the mad houses of fashion and retail, I wish you peace and joy.
