Also known as right conduct, it is being morally correct in what we do. It means we do not take another beings live, we do not steal, nor do we engage in illicit sexual practices. It is being scrupulous in your actions, not engaging in violence towards others, showing mercy and compassion when required. Not taking that which is not freely given. This is more than just “Thou shall not steal”, for it also includes coercing or convincing someone to give us something, using false pre tenses to acquire something we otherwise would not obtain. A good example would be a young man professing love to his girlfriend, when is only intent is to get her to engage in sex at that moment. Getting someone to give their love to us, when we are using false thoughts, words, and actions brings many levels of bad karma. We will incur a karmic debt, that may take several rebirths to repay. There are many parables of people who are heart broken, and find out it was someone they hurt in a previous life.
