Daily Prompt: Musical
What role does music play in your life?
I grew up with music, so to me I have always had a sound track in my life. From watching the Ed Sullivan show with my parents for the Beatles, Supremes, the Muppets, the Stones, the Doors and many others. My parents had different tastes in music, so I listened to Ukrainian folk song, Chinese Opera, Blues, Jazz, Classical, Rock and Roll and even musical soundtracks. In 1968 I received my first LP as a birthday gift, Days of Future Passed by the Moody Blues, and shortly afterwards my parents decided I needed to have a few more albums to play. When K-tel records started releasing their 20 song compilations with the 20 Original Hits, Original Stars, tagline I was a loyal purchaser.
I had the good fortune to have tickets for Abba when they did their last world tour, and found out just how strong an attraction music was to girls. I had tickets to the Edmonton show on September 13, 1979 and was one of the most popular guys around all of a sudden. When it came to chasing a lady I would make her a mix cassette tape and always tell her the songs reminded me of her. I can still have memories triggered by certain songs, and will probably always have music in my life.
I have about 20 different playlists on my phone, a couple for the morning to get me set for the day. If it’s a work day I might have Workin 9-5 by Dolly Parton, Morning Train by Sheena Easton, and Bus Rider by the Guess Who. Days at the beach might find me listening to Sufin USA or Kokomo by the Beach Boys, Dock of the Bay by Ottis Redding, Under the Boardwalk by the Drifters, Patio Lanterns by Kim Mitchell, Happy Hawaii by Abba, or Lost Horizon by Shawn Phillips.
I was tempted to just repost Daily Prompt: Ready, Set Go which has a current playlist already listed. We only had 10 minutes to write the post, so I choose to list part of a current playlist, so yes I have a soundtrack for my life. The question for me is what’s on your soundtrack?

I was mad about Abba. Even when they were big, they were uncool in the UK. I didn’t care

There was a time when every day, every minute, there was always music playing in the house… Classical, popular, Hindi, English, old, new, instrumental pieces… Most often, it would be the radio, or a cassette
Of late, the house has become more quiet. Its rather strange – each of our phones has a music player or a radio built in, we have music accessible at our fingertips via youtube, and yet, we listen to music a lot less these days!
