Daily Prompt: Time Capsule

The year is drawing to a close. What would you put in a 2012 time capsule?

A simple question, yet with so much to choose from the answering is difficult. Do we do it with only personal items, or do we fill it with items that span the world, our concerns, our fears, and our joys? After all we can’t predict who will open the capsule in 100 years or, perhaps due to some unforseen circumstance it’s a millennium before it’s found. So I am going to take the long view, and assume mine is the only one found in the year 3012.

In today’s news an archeology team unearthed a stainless steel container today, that dates back to almost 1000 years ago. The time capsule as it is inscribed, appears to be just a metal capsule with items from the year 2012, ending on 31 December 2012. Scientists at the New Einstein Lab of Relativity have checked the item thoroughly using molecular scans, and have determined this so called time capsule can not travel through time. The world’s leading etymologist has informed us, that during the time period the capsule was buried people, had not yet discovered time travel, so the term meant a storage container for memories, and items to be opened at a later date. Many buildings such as schools and libraries placed these containers, to be opened in 50 or 100 years time.

The container contained a physical disk with pictures of Keith in various locations in the world. Also were included images of front pages for various publications called newspapers from around the world. entomologists are still arguing over why these were called newspapers, as all evidence points to their being digital in format, not printed on paper, such as books from before the time of the capsule. Also included was an electronic device with a screen which contained books from such authors as T. W. Dittmer, KZ, Seamus Gallacher, Ellis Nelson. We assume these are some of the prominent writers of the time, as with the period before the cataclysm we don’t have much information on. Also found were some seeds, which geneticists hope to be able to copy the DNA and bring back some ancient species from before the cataclysm. More to follow as we unearth the secrets from a millennium ago.

  1. oh wow, I wrote books!! lol thank you, Keith ^^

  2. haha a book in less than a month? man, you’re worse than our editor ^^ loved the way you presented the article.. like it’s so real ^^

    • I didn’t say it had to be an encyclopedia of poetry, plus you already have some on your blog. Unlike your editor, I’ll count your past gems.
As to the way I presented it, I saw an article about the idea of refreezing the Arctic ice cap in todays news, and am writting a post on that, so future implications of our actions was my mindset.
